A.R.O.Y.
Sunday
Reminder
to
Chapters
On
Sunday,
December
9,
we
will
again
celebrate
our
annual
observance
of
the
St.
Nicholas
A.R.O.Y.
Sunday.
All
chapters
are
reminded
that
they
should
plan,
if
they
have
not
already,
to
observe
this
special
day
in
an
appropriate
way.
(See
the
A.R.O.Y.
Sunday
page
for
more
information.)
In
October
1951,
the
A.R.O.Y.
National
Board
instituted
the
tradition
of
A.R.O.Y.
Sunday
which
began
on
the
Sunday
of
the
Triumph
of
Orthodoxy,
the
First
Sunday
in
Great
Lent,
1952.
Later
that
year,
they
went
on
to
incorporate
a
second
A.R.O.Y.
Sunday
to
be
held
during
Christmas
Lent.
After
St.
Nicholas
was
chosen
as
the
Patron
Saint
of
A.R.O.Y.
(1958),
the
pre-Christmas
observance
was
established
as
the
Sunday
nearest
the
celebration
of
the
Feast
of
Saint
Nicholas.
The
National
Board,
who
will
be
meeting
that
weekend
in
Cleveland,
Ohio,
will
observe
the
day
together
with
the
local
Cleveland
A.R.O.Y.
Chapter.
We
encourage
chapters
to
share
their
activities
with
us
by
sending
a
short
article,
along
with
a
few
photos,
to
be
posted
on
the
A.R.O.Y.
Website.
