National Board Meets at Cathedral
by Maranda Tipa & Lisa Nemes

On the weekend of January 26-28, 2007, National A.R.O.Y. held its winter board meeting at St. George Cathedral, in Detroit/Southfield, Michigan.  The weekend was both productive and communal.

Various projects that are to be implemented within the next few months were discussed in great depth.  Projects such as a fashion show, vacation package raffle, and other ideas are being planned as fundraisers, so that the Board can increase the ability to do more ’good works’ on behalf of the organization.  The “Tree of Blessings” Project, Work Month, memorials, and more were among other projects discussed.  We were grateful that Fr. Laurence Lazar (past board member and spiritual advisor), the Dean of the Cathedral spent much of the day with us.  It is very encouraging to see the active support of our clergy.  Outgoing Senior Chapter President Alex Radulescu, and Past National President David Maxim took part as observers as well.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Board members attended Great Vespers, celebrated by Fr. Laurence Lazar and Dn. Sabin Pop.  After vespers, Board members were given the opportunity to interact with both Cathedral Junior and Senior A.R.O.Y. Chapter members at the Cocariu home, where dinner and a night of bowling (yes, actual bowling!), music and fun were provided.  We thank Mrs. Cocariu for inviting and welcoming the National Board into her home.  Members of the National Board were also able to witness the election of Cathedral Senior A.R.O.Y. Chapter Officers.  The enjoyable evening allowed the Board to socialize with members of the Cathedral A.R.O.Y. Chapter’s and see first hand how long-time A.R.O.Y. members are welcoming many new members and friends into the organization and the parish.

On Sunday, at the Cathedral, Board Members joined parishioners by participating in the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy, presided by His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL.  Afterward, those board members still present attended the annual Three Hierarchs/Officer Installation Dinner, which was offered this year in memory of His Eminence, Archbishop VALERIAN.  That day, January 28, marked the 20th Anniversary of his falling asleep in the Lord.  A very unique and special program highlighted the day.

The Board thanks V. Rev. Fr. Laurence Lazar, the Cathedral Parish, and to both Cathedral Junior and Senior A.R.O.Y. Chapters for hosting us.  We look forward to returning to the Cathedral and welcoming everyone to Detroit for our 58th Conference!
